COALITION OF MOBILEHOME OWNERS - CALIFORNIA
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
PREFACE
Thank you for taking your time to learn about our Coalition. In fact it is YOUR Coalition - we are working hard to protect the rights of ALL mobile home owners in the State of California. PLEASE JOIN. - just call us at 1-800-929-6061.
TELL ME ABOUT THE "COALITION"
We are a state-wide advocacy group for mobile home owners - a 501(c)3 California Corporation. The Coalition of Mobilehome Owners - Los Angeles County (CoMO-LAC) was formed in November, 2004. Because of our unique services, the Coalition was an immediate success. Our name changed to CoMO-CAL as of March 21, 2006. Today we are a state wide mobile home owner advocacy organization and accept membership from mobilehome owners throughout the state of California. We figured why not offer all mobilehome owners the chance to belong to an organization that is really MAKING A DIFFERENCE.
Today CoMO-CAL is the fastest growing advocacy group for mobile home owners in the State of California. Although many of our members live in Los Angeles County, membership in other areas such as Sacramento, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, San Diego, Riverside, Palm Springs, Modesto, Clear Lake, Perris, Banning and many others is growing rapidly.
All your dues go to helping you. We spend NOTHING on office staff. We are all volunteers. We are not associated with anyother group, attorney, or organization. We are completely independent and work to serve only our membership.

WHY JOIN?
What would you do if you got an eviction notice, a 3 day notice to pay or quit, a 7 day notice, 60 day notice, or other notice. Would you know what to do? Would you know who to turn to? Where to get unbiased information? Many simply go to the yellow pages and randomly pick an attorney. This can be both risky and costly.
We can advise you what you need to do. Together we HAVE A VOICE.You HAVE NO VOICE when you are alone. YOU NEED TO JOIN if you are not an attorney, or know the laws that protect you.
WHAT CAN CoMO-CAL DO FOR ME?
We provide a unique service. We are not afraid to "tell it like it is." Today we have members in over 350 mobilehome parks across the state. Our members are our eyes and ears. They tell us what's happening in their individual parks and cities. We use this information in two different ways. We publish a monthly newsletter using members feedback and our own experiences and research. And we take all information to identify and prioritize issues across the state. We publish our findings for all members to see and use. And we make suggestions how you can best protect yourself. Services.
We encourage you to call us, write us, or email us if you have an issue. We are there for you. We have an 800 toll free number (1-800-929-6061) or you can email us (comocal@yahoo.com) or write us (P.O. Box 4821, Chatsworth, Ca. 91313). And remember, helping you resolve your issue adds to our knowledge and will benefit others with similar issues. CoMO-CAL enables you to work with other mobilehome owners across the state. Ultimately this means mobilehome owners are finally working together as a team! Alone we have no voice, together we do. Together we can MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
TELL ME ABOUT THE VOICE, CoMO-CAL'S WONDERFUL NEWSLETTER
We publish a newsletter monthly. This year it has averaged 20 pages. Topics include rent increases, problems with management, passthroughs, litigation in other areas, strategy parks use to get our money, etc. It is the heart of our organization and the way we communicate with our members. Free Newsletter
CAN I JOIN FOR LESS?
We want every mobilehome owner in the State of California to be a member of our group. If you can not afford our yearly membership dues, just fill out an application Join Us and send in what you can. If you can afford nothing, we are happy to email you our newsletter.
CAN I GET LEGAL ASSISTANCE?
If you ever receive an eviction notice, are harassed, or had your Mobilehome Residency Law (MRL) rights violated—you need help NOW. Our goal is to provide assistance to those in need quickly. We hope to have an attorney on call (as we get members and funds) and we are working to get some volunteer help with legal matters. We hope to latter offer legal assistance on a case to case basis. We have started a legal fund and ask for $10 donations. To learn more about member services, click Services.
WHY DO I NEED TO BE INVOLVED?
Because what you don't know can hurt you!
ISN’T SOMEONE ELSE LOOKING OUT FOR MOBILEHOME OWNERS HERE IN CALIFORNIA?
In fact there is really no one looking out for you. Housing and Community Development (HCD) only handles health and safety issues. It does not get involved in Civil Code issues. For instance, it is a civil matter if you feel management is taking advantage of you (interfering with the sale of your home, harassing you, threatening to evict you, etc).
Enforcing Civil Code violations usually means you have to retain an attorney and go to Superior Court. If you are lucky enough to live in a city with rent control, they will help with rent issues.
IS THERE SOMEONE I CAN CONTACT?
Yes, of course - contact us. And we are available 7 days a week. If you have a problem and need advice, we suggest you put it in writing and send it to us. NO CHARGE. Use the form "Join Our Mailing List" to send us a question.
IS COMO-CAL ASSOCIATED WITH ATTORNEYS, THE STATE OR OTHER GROUPS?
NO. We are not affiliated with anyone. We are mobilehome owners who are dedicated to helping other owners in Los Angeles County and through out Southern California. We answer to no one but our membership.
HOW IS YOUR MONEY SPENT?
We are all volunteers. Your dues go to publish the monthly newsletter "THE VOICE," and mailing costs. We continually are sending flyers to mobile home parks letting people know we are there to help them. We have nominal attorney costs today. As funds become available we may provide members legal funds on a case by case basis.
PROTECT YOURSELF. TOGETHER WE HAVE A VOICE. DON’T GO IT ALONE!
