COALITION OF MOBILEHOME OWNERS - CALIFORNIA

Services to Our Members

THE VOICE - CoMO-CAL'S PREMIER MONTHLY NEWSLETTER

We publish a monthly newsletter, often 20 pages in length. It contains articles regarding rent control, legislation, newspaper articles about situations around the state, tips, suggestions, information about our organization, etc.  It has been very well received.

We welcome members and others to send us articles. We usually publish members articles unedited. We want as many mobile home owners to know what’s happening as possible.CoMO-CAL responds to members needs.

ALERTS - E-MAIL NETWORK
Started in January 2008, our e-mail network has grown to almost 1,000 contacts across the state.  It is a FREE service and is not offered by any other advocacy group in California.  To join, simply send us an email (comocal@yahoo.com or fawodley@yahoo.com) and we will add you to this list.  We also ask you to tell your friends and neighbors about this service.  Our goal is to inform you - now it can be done instantaneously.

MEMBERSHIP IN OTHER GROUPS

CARA:  As a member of CoMO-CAL, you are now automatically a member in the California Alliance for Retired Americans (CARA).  Their website is at  californiaalliance.org.   They lobby in Sacramento and work hard for seniors. Membership in CARA is usually $10, but it is FREE when you join CoMO-CAL.

WEBSITE

All visitors  may view our history, our mission, who we are,  frequently asked questions, testimonials, and links to state and county government and other websites of interest to mobilehome owners.

MEMBERS ONLY SECTION OF WEBSITE

We have had a "members only section;" however as of May 1, 2008 it was discontinued.  We now publish an archive of newsletters and other information in the "FILE" section of this website, accessible by anyone, not just members.  Our goal is to inform and educate ALL mobilehome owners, not just our membership.

FILE
The newly added "file" section contains an archive of all past THE VOICE.  It is accessible to all who visit our website.

OPERATION REACH OUT "OReO"  (THE WHISPER)

Operation "Reach Out" was begun in 2007 to inform all residents in parks, not just our membership.  In August 2007 we distributed over 6,000 single page, double sided fliers about the park owner's group - Western Manufactured Housing Communities (WMA) and what they are doing.  Eventually we would like to do this on a monthly basis in as many parks as possible.  Please volunteer to distribute in your park.

ATTORNEY REFERRALS

CoMO-CAL publishes a list of attorneys in every THE VOICE.  These attorneys are well versed in mobilehome law and have been helping mobilehome owners for years.  No other advocacy group in California does this.

ATTORNEY ASSISTANCE

Beginning January 2008 we will offer attorney assistance at NO COST to a member.  We will do this on a trial basis.  Members who need assistance are required to submit an "application" to CoMO-CAL to be selected for this service.

SPECIAL - THE CHALLENGE TO RENT CONTROL

We also have a special section in "members only" about the issue of RENT CONTROL CHALLENGE. This includes the California Property Owners and Farmlands Protection Act (CPOFA)  and condo conversions.

LETTERS ON DEMAND

We understand the need for a mobile home owner to communicate with their park owner manager, or neighbor. We know letters you write yourselves are often overlooked; therefore we will assist you in writing your  letter and will send our letter head. If this does not get a positive response, we can recommend an attorney (your dime) who might assist you.

SMALL CLAIMS COURT ASSISTANCE

We know Small Claims Court offers a chance to enforce laws which your park owner or manager violate. To that end, we will assist you in filling out your paperwork for Small Claims Court and will pay your fee, up to $30.00.

There are conditions. First, we must approve your case - we will support you if you are going to small claims court to enforce your rights under the Mobilehome Residency Law. Second, you must sign a contract with us. The contract will state you must keep us informed as to the developments in your Small Claims case and if you are the prevailing party, you must repay the fee we paid when you submitted your claim. This way we can support someone else.

Click Small Claims Court Guide for additional information about filing and going to Small Claims Court.

ADVICE

We are available to give you advice 24/7. We prefer to receive a question by email, but you can write to us at CoMO-CAL, P.O. Box 4821, Chatsworth, Ca. 91313.  We will not handle a question by phone. Our goal is to get back to you within 24 hours of receipt of your question. If we can not answer your question ourselves, we are prepared to consult with our Attorney at no cost to you.
