COALITION OF MOBILEHOME OWNERS - CALIFORNIA

WHO ARE WE?

We are mobile home owners just like you.  We will not sit idle.  We want to help our friends and neighbors understand their rights and teach them how to use that knowledge.  We are not a government agency, nor are we associated with attorneys or others.  We have our own voice - the voice of our members.  In fact our newsletter is called "THE VOICE."

CoMO-CAL is registered with the State of California as a non-profit educational organization. This is a grass-roots group that will take time to grow. 

Our officers are all unpaid volunteers and always will be.  None of our officers are attorneys.  Your dues all go to helping mobile home owners around your area. And $15.00 is a small price to help protect yourself and your neighbors.  (Or you can join for 3 years @ $40 - just $13.33/year)

We believe in our group, so strongly that we have donated our own funds to get started. Our compensation will be knowing that there is finally some justice. 

Your membership dues first go to postage and printing costs for the newsletter (66%).  As more funds are available we hope to have an attorney on call, and later our goal is to have legal assistance on a case by case basis.

We are an open group.  We have regular board meetings which are advertised in the newsletter and all members are welcome. We publish the minutes of our meetings.

We have distributed several thousand brochures and newsletters to parks in California.  We offer a three month trial membership for those who want to learn about us before joining.

In fact some of your neighbors are joining.  So know we are here for you.  Don’t wait for trouble! 

Do you know that some residents here in Los Angeles County have lost their mobilehomes to the park? They had to walk away from their homes and received nothing in return.  You think they must have done something very wrong, but that is usually not the case.  In one instance a home owner did not respond to a three day pay or quit notice.  He incorrectly thought he could pay two months and a late charge when next months rent was due. The park wouldn't accept his payment and ultimately it cost the man his home.  This could happen to you if you do not have anyone to turn to or if you do not understand the law yourself. 

Do you know that with a group of about 15 residents in a park in Long Beach won a “failure to maintain” lawsuit for $4,600,000. against their park.  Some residents were awarded as much as $55,000. and got a new management company, one that is known state-wide as a management company that cares about the residents.

Do you know that the Los Angeles Housing Department has a Mobile Home Park Task Force and some of its members represent you if you own a  mobilehome in the City of Los Angeles?  Do you know that many of the Task Force are members of CoMO-CAL?

Do you know there is a campaign in some parks to remove the vast majority of older mobilehomes using whatever means necessary to regain their lot spaces?  Do you know this is a violation of the law? 

Do you know some parks interfere with sales of mobilehomes?  Sometimes they interfere by not approving a qualified buyer or other means.

These are just a few of the subjects covered in our newsletters.  If you are a member you will be informed. You can attend meetings in your area for mobilehome owners—meet your neighbors and learn what’s happening locally. And you can call us with your questions and talk with a real person interested in your situation.
